A farewell

The ouzo no longer tastes
which is a vague sign
that things are going downhill
towards the sea
that also no longer wants me

Remains
rustling trees around the house
a paradise full of headstrong birds
playing games
with the cats

The scent of goats and greenery
a salty breeze
that caresses the skin
interspersed with
imposing silences

Screaming crickets
sweet birdsongs
in the distance an airplane
above rolling waves
and a car chugging by

My world is getting smaller
every day a little more
the table no longer overflowing
the glasses full of water
next to some jars of honey

The breath a bit more difficult
the strength fades away
but the sun keeps shining
and in the moonlight
the night remains a quiet comfort

My dear Lesvos
with your sturdy mountains
and your impressive landscapes
Please, keep making my loved ones
happy, I go towards the end.
